  Recruitment Process

Applicants need to download and complete the application form and equal opportunities form, and then return then to us either by post or as an email attachment.

In the "Personal Statement" section of the form, applicants should draw particular attention to their experiences, what they have learnt from them, skills, achievements and knowledge gained in past employment or other activities which may be relevant to the job. Applicants should write in a concise, well organised way, giving examples of how they meet the Person Specification. A separate personal statement should be completed for each post.

Please note that a Curriculum Vitae (CV) will not be accepted.

After the closing date, a panel of three people will shortlist the applications based on how closely applicants match the person specification. Shortlisting takes place as soon after the closing date as is possible. The Equal Opportunities in Employment form is removed prior to shortlisting. This ensures that the shortlisting panel see only information relevant to each person's application and prevents discrimination.

Candidates will be given two weeks' notice of an interview, which will be held as soon as possible. In order to save on overhead costs, if applicants have not been shortlisted, we will not write to them to say this, but please accept our appreciation for your interest in Carr-Gomm Scotland and the time and thought that you will have put into your application.

A letter will be sent out inviting candidates to interview, which will include a Disclosure Scotland application. All candidates must bring a completed Disclosure Scotland application to interview along with a photocopy of, or an original, birth certificate, driver's licence or passport. The letter will explain who will be in their interview panel and where the interview will take place. Managerial posts may require a presentation to be prepared in advance. If this is required candidates will be given details when invited to interview. Any equipment required will be provided and this will be detailed in the letter inviting you to interview.

If candidates are successful at interview we will write to them to inform them and go ahead to request 2 references. These must be from the candidate's most recent employers. If candidates do not have work experience, they must give other relevant referees, who do not have a personal or family relationship to them. On the application form it is possible to specify of candidates would like us to contact them before requesting references. The offer of employment is subject to satisfactory references, a health questionnaire and a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure Scotland Certificate. New starts are given a start date eight weeks after the job offer is made.
