EDINBURGH -ACCOMMODATION LINKED SERVICES

HARTINGTON SERVICES - What kinds of service you can expect : This service is for people who have severe and enduring mental health problems to help them stay in their own home. This service is specifically for people leaving the Royal Edinburgh Hospital. A team of support staff, including Senior Support Workers and Support Workers can support you for different reasons or on different parts of you life.

The team can work alongside your family and friends, General Practitioner, Social Worker and other organisations important to you. The team will support you in your own home and with a range of activities. The service offers access to 5-shared houses in the Morningside/Bruntsfield area of Edinburgh.

There is a sleepover service based in one of their houses, which provides overnight support when required, for the people in all 5 houses.

Housing Issues: We are not a Housing Association but can help you find a house. Some people we support share a house so there may be the chance to live with them.

Frequently Asked Questions:

How do I get the service? The only way to receive this service is through the Social Work Department, as the City of Edinburgh Council has a contract with Carr-Gomm Scotland. You can contact your local social work office; or if you are in the Royal Edinburgh Hospital, the Community Rehabilitation Team; or you can ask someone to do that on your behalf. A social worker will then prepare with you a CARENAP- which is an assessment tool used to help identify the areas of your life you may wish to discuss with us and what you need support for. The Social Work Department, in consultation with the health service, will then decide if you should be offered a service.
You will have opportunities to find out about Carr-Gomm Scotland and how we would support you and then decide if you want to accept the offer of a service, if one is made.
Throughout this process - and at any time when you are receiving our service you can have someone with you to put forward your point of view.

Do I have to pay for the service? Your social worker will complete a financial assessment as part of your CARENAP. This will identify whether or not you will make a financial contribution to the Social Work Department for the services that they purchase on your behalf. This will be in line with the Councils pricing framework. Please do not let this put you off as many people receive our service free of charge. For the Social Worker, the cost of the service to the people living in the five houses across Morningside/Bruntsfield is covered by the Block Contract. For people supported elsewhere, there is an hourly rate for Senior Support Workers and Support Workers.

How do you know we will provide a good service? We choose our workers carefully and our managers check they are doing their job well. We will ask you and your Care Manager what you think about the service. The Care Commission will tell us if we are getting it right and you can see what they have written about us. If you are unhappy with our service you can make a complaint. We have another leaflet that tells you how to do this.

What can you expect from us?  We will always be honest with you. We will treat you with respect. We will listen to what you want. We will support you in the way we say we will.

What we expect from you?  We expect that you treat our workers with respect. We would like you to tell us if we are making mistakes. We would like you to be honest with us.

What if I no longer want support? If you decide that you no longer want support, you should discuss the reasons for your decision with your Support Worker, Care Manager, Health Care Professionals and Family.

What if I would like to have another organisation support me?  If for whatever reason you no longer want support from Carr-Gomm Scotland and would like  support from another organisation, you should discuss this with your Support Worker and Care Manager. Your Support Worker can assist you in identifying another support provider.
